Cartooning the Landscape: Art, Nature and Consciousness
CED Professor of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design Chip Sullivan has been invited to exhibit his illustrations and work at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. Sullivan exhibit will draw heavily from his book, “Cartooning the Landscape,” now in its fourth edition.
Formatted as a graphic novel, this ecological parable is a fictionalized account of a sustained mentor-protégé relationship, where weekly lessons on drawing, seeing and consciousness fulfill the protagonist’s long search for a wise teacher. The book highlights the metaphysics of drawing and encourages readers to “see” landscapes anew through the lens of hand drawn illustration. The plot is inspired by events and people who have influenced Chip’s search for environmental awareness.
Professor Sullivan’s opening reception will taking place Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. in the Evolution House, West Port Edinburgh, EH1, 2LE. This exhibition will be open for viewing Nov. 23-25 and Nov. 28-30, hosted by Art Space + Nature, a MFA/MA program at the Edinburgh School of Architecture & Landscape Architecture at the University of Edinburgh.
