Dear incoming students,
As members of the CED community, and as CED Admissions Ambassadors, we are so excited to welcome you to the college for the Fall 2020 semester!
The CED Admissions Ambassadors is a student organization that provides outreach to prospective, admitted, and new students to help them discover CED and the opportunities available here. We know that your presence will enrich our community and contribute to our shared CED goals, and we look forward to connecting with you soon!
In previous semesters, we may have run into each other in classrooms, lecture halls, and libraries; and built community through quick chats after lecture, looking for opportunities on bulletin boards, or during boba runs. This semester, we are waiting behind our screens to meet an array of new faces and have those same exciting, fulfilling, and educating conversations.
We know that the transition to remote learning may be difficult; it’s not how we imagined college either. We also know that many of us are facing other challenges, be they personal, or related to the broader national or international conversations on health, safety, social justice, and more. Please take care of yourself first. Part of self-care is recognizing the need for outside support, and we encourage you to familiarize yourself with Berkeley’s resources such as those provided by the Tang Center, identity and interest-based organizations, and resources available in CED. We all learn best when we are taking care of ourselves.
This semester, although we may not be together in person, there are still many ways to get involved, both at CED and with the greater Berkeley campus. We encourage you to join student organizations (maybe even the CED Admissions Ambassadors!), take risks, and have fun forming friendships on the platforms campus has available.
For NEW students, participate in events such as our virtual Wurster Fest on August 25. There are also awesome CED virtual happy hours and town halls for all students coming up soon. Join WursterLife and get in touch with alumni. Follow @wursterlife on Instagram and the Ambassadors on Facebook. Go to office hours, even if you don’t have a specific question. Turn on your camera in lecture and discussion! Reach out to that classmate who seems to have similar, or just exciting, interests. Talk to an academic advisor who can help you achieve and discover your goals. Ultimately, this semester will be what WE choose to make it.
From our living space to yours, welcome!
