We are thrilled to share that your Big Give gift on Thursday, March 10 will have double the impact due to a generous CED alumnus, Shawn Tsao ‘11, who has offered up to $150,000 to match and inspire all CED alumni, parents, and friends to give to student tech access at CED. Shawn is a pioneer in supporting tech access for CED and this match dramatically expands our ability to fund and support hundreds of students. Your Big Give gift directly impacts our CED students in their ability to take full advantage of their time in Bauer Wurster Hall.
The number one way CED can directly support the 60 percent of CED undergraduates with financial need is to provide waivers of their technology access fees. For Fabrication Shop and Digital Fabrication Lab use, materials, computer accounts, software, and printing costs, “tech access” can total up to $1,800 per student each year. Unfortunately, these fees are not included in campus financial aid packages, and yet they are absolutely integral to equity, co-learning, and a complete CED experience. There is no mechanism to support undergraduate students in this area other than with private gifts. We estimate there is $400,000 in annual need and this year we are focusing CED’s Big Give generosity on solving this issue.
On Thursday, March 10, we invite you to make student tech access possible during UC Berkeley's Big Give, our campus-wide annual online fundraising event.
What is Big Give? Big Give is UC Berkeley's annual one-day fundraising blitz. It has been online since 2014, inspiring our community to make Berkeley moments possible. On March 10, 2022, we will invite CED alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends like you to rally in support of our great college, building more opportunity for our students and boosting Berkeley’s commitment to equity and environmental design excellence.
Support equity within CED's educational experience.
