Alumni were recently honored with awards from the ASLA Northern California Chapter awards for 2013. Landscape architecture firm SWA Group received a Merit Award under Research, Planning, Analysis and Communication for its work on the "Alemaya Farm Project," a body of research that develops an approach to sustainable, organic and crop-producing farming for a client with no prior farming experience. The firm also received an Honor Award under Design: Transportation, Streets and Public Spaces for its work on "Guthrie Green: A High-Performance Park Powering a Renewed Urban District." Lead landscape architect John L. Wong (B.A. Landscape Architecture '74) led a team in transforming a 2.6-acre former truck loading facility into a lively new urban park offering gardens, interactive fountains, a lawn amphitheater, an outdoor stage with vine-covered “green rooms”, and an 11,200-square foot cafe pavilion. GLS Landscape Architecture, principal Gary Strang (M.Arch '85), received a Merit Award for its work on "750 Second Street." Congratulations!
