Arch Alum, Aboubacar Komara, Awarded The Sather Gate Young Volunteer Award

Aboubacar Komara (B.A. Arch ‘18) has recently been awarded the Sather Gate Young Volunteer Award. The award will be presented during a ceremony on Friday, October 18 from 5-7 p.m. during the Reunion and Parents Weekend. The Sather Gate Young Award is given by the Cal Alumni Association and honors two alumni who have graduated within the last 10 years for their leadership in the community.
As an undergraduate, Komara applied his studies in architecture, environmental design, and urbanism for developing countries towards housing projects in Guinea. His work in Guinea involves addressing the housing crisis through his initiative, “The Tiny House Project.”
The Tiny House Project incorporates community and ecological based solutions that provide housing solutions to vulnerable communities in the slums of Kaloum in Conarky, Guinea. These solutions focus on architectural designs that promote sustainability and adaptability through one-room dwellings. The dwelling emphasizes maximizing limited space with moveable, multi-purpose features that within the same space.
