Jeff Hou (PhD '01, M Arch '94) was recently selected as the City of Vienna Visiting Professor for 2013 by SKuOR -- the Interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Culture and Public Space at Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien). Over the course of the 2013 academic year Hou will be working with faculty and students to develop a project titled "City Mixing" which examines how urban placemaking can engender meeting of cultures, negotiation of differences, and sharing and making of knowledge. Hou also recently released a new edited book titled Transcultural Cities: Border-Crossing and Placemaking (Routledge 2013). His book is a collection of case studies around the world that examine how placemaking can engender cross-cultural understanding in an age with growing movements and migrations of people.
