Join us for the opening reception of the new group exhibition Space Open, showcasing the never-before-exhibited artwork of a loose collection of landscape architects, architects, planners, designers and artists who collaborate under the name Space Open.
Department Chair of LAEP Louise Mozingo, the exhibition’s advisor Chip Sullivan, and curators Bobby Glass and Darryl Jones will host a brief discussion on the inception of the group in Wurster Hall, and the shared philosophies that drive their post-UC Berkeley collaboration. Many of the 15 featured artists will be in attendance to introduce their work to curious viewers.
Space Open is a daily practice of seeing and rendering the world in the spirit of the Great Masters. However, this fluctuating group are not yet masters, but contemporary creative explorers and inspired idealists who find a calling in their surrounding landscape and among each other.
This exhibition captures a moment in time when as a group Space Open is questioning the reality of life in the profession: Outside the office, just what is landscape architecture?
Drinks and snacks will be provided.
This exhibition is made possible by the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning, and a grant from Beatrix Farrand Fund.
