2017 College of Environmental Design Commencement Speaker
Clark Wilson (M.C.P. and M.L.A. ’98) is an urban designer and associate director at EPA’s Office of Sustainable Communities. At EPA, Mr. Wilson focuses his research, design and policy work on integrating green infrastructure into street and neighborhood design; improving walkability in communities; and advancing the goals of equitable development. Mr. Wilson manages several of the office’s technical assistance programs including EPA’s Greening America’s Capitals program which provides design assistance to state capitals to incorporate smart growth and green infrastructure strategies into their planning and development efforts. To date the program has worked with 29 state capitals. Prior to joining the EPA in 2007, Mr. Wilson was an Associate Principal with Community Design + Architecture, an urban design firm in Oakland, CA. At CD+A his work focused on incorporating ecological systems into urban and street design projects.

Caps and Gowns
The Graduation Department opens in April, 2017 for cap and gown purchases as well as announcements, diploma covers, and other graduation products.
Students have the option of wearing a UC Berkeley or ethnically-significant stole during the graduation ceremony. The UCB stole is a length of satin with a special embroidered UCB seal patch, and can be worn by any student to decorate the graduation gown. Especially nice for graduation pictures and regal-looking when worn in ceremony, the stole is available for purchase at the Cal Student Store.
The stole hangs around the back of the neck, with the two ends lying flat on the chest. Because of the fine satin, the stole tends to slip during heavy movement, so we recommend pinning the stole from the inside to the graduation gown. Stoles can be embroidered to include the name of a fraternity/sorority, student organization/club, sports team, or with "Class of 2014." Often stoles are given to the organization's seniors as a congratulatory gift. They can also be worn unembroidered with just the patch.
Hoods for Master and PhD students
Please note that for the College of Environmental Design students should receive "Chocolate Brown" hoods from the student store
If you are graduating with honors, you are eligible to purchase an honor cord to wear during your ceremony. You may purchase an honor cord at the Cal Student Store.
Grade-point average cutoffs and guidelines for undergraduate honors are posted on the CED undergraduate advising website.
EOP Graduation Gown Lending Project
For over 40 years, the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at Cal has provided first-generation, low-income and underrepresented college students with the guidance and resources necessary to succeed at the best public university in the world. The EOP Graduation Gown Lending Project helps to alleviate the cost of commencement caps and gowns for EOP students. Please consider donating any black graduation gowns you may own to EOP to help future first-generation and low-income students be the next cohort to graduate from UC Berkeley. To see how you can donate, please contact EOP at email@example.com or (510) 642-7224.
Portrait sessions for the UC Berkeley undergraduate yearbook take place in February. If you are a senior and are interested in appearing in the yearbook, see the Blue & Gold Yearbook website for more information.
