Rami Cardenas joins the Berkeley MRED+D program from Tijuana, Mexico. Rami has more than 6 years’ experience managing his family-owned and -operated real estate development company, a firm with more than 30+ years of experience developing and holding projects ranging from middle-income family housing, to convenience shopping centers and light industrial and multifamily developments in the Baja California region.
From construction management responsibilities to managing risk, capital structure, and leading project pitches to investors, Rami has had the extraordinary opportunity to learn the development process from a holistic start-to-finish approach. His proximity and day-to-day interaction with clients, investors, owners, and industry players has given him the opportunity to make big decisions that impact the well-being of the final user and society. His love and passion for urban development, the unique and complex challenges of developing in Mexico, and his goal to make better and more meaningful projects that impact the society he lives in make it the most relevant time in his career to pursue graduate school.
Through the MRED+D program, he hopes to become part of a new generation of young, design-driven urban innovators with the capacity to change social inequality through sustainable urban development. He’s keen on further exploring mixed-use and institutional grade for-rent apartment developments. Rami holds a BBA degree in Finance from Loyola Marymount University and diplomas in Real Estate Finance and Strategy from ITAM, Mexico City; IE Business School, Madrid; and ESADE Business School in Barcelona, Spain.
On the side, Rami enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, and spending time in Valle Guadalupe.
