Born and raised in Berkeley, Nithya Vemireddy graduated from Santa Clara University with a B.S. in Psychology and Public Health Science. As an undergraduate student, Nithya was awarded the Global Social Benefit Fellowship, where she and a peer fellow conducted research to assess the social impact of Awaaz.De, an India-based social enterprise.
After graduation, Nithya accepted the American India Foundation’s William J. Clinton Fellowship for Service in India. She partnered with the non-profit Prajwala Sangham to develop their communication and development strategies. After the fellowship, she continued working for Prajwala Sangham and eventually joined their Board of Advisors.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nithya returned to Berkeley and began working at her family’s property management company as a development associate. Here, she saw how a real estate developer can craft inclusive and affordable neighborhoods, leading her to join Berkeley’s MRED+D program.
Nithya sees the MRED+D program as a way to become a developer whose developments can improve educational, health, and economic opportunities for the whole community.
In her free time, you can find Nithya cheering on the Golden State Warriors, exploring the Bay’s food scene, and hugging baby goats.
