Michaelyn Miyagishima joins Berkeley’s Master of Real Estate Development + Design after five years of living and working in the Washington, D.C. metro area. While in Washington, D.C., Michaelyn worked in various research and operations roles at Avison Young, a global commercial real estate firm. Most recently, she was the Operations Manager for the Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, and Suburban Maryland offices, focused on facilities management, finance and accounting, human resource functions, and administration across the region. Michaelyn was also actively involved in the company’s corporate social responsibility platform, committed to building out sustainability and philanthropic initiatives. In this role, Michaelyn strategized corporate governance in order to promote health and wellness, financial success, and positive environmental impacts for Avison Young’s employees and clients.
By pursuing a Master of Real Estate Development + Design, she hopes to further understand the important societal, environmental, and economic impacts that design has on the built environment. Before attending Berkeley, Michaelyn graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, majoring in Art History with emphases in Architecture and Environmental Studies.
She currently resides in San Francisco, California, where she was born and raised, and enjoys outdoor sports including hiking and tennis, travel, photography, drawing and painting, and walks with her Bernese Mountain Dog.
