Brent is a registered architect and urban designer from South Africa with nearly a decade of experience in public and private sectors of real estate development and has been a project lead architect on several large-scale developments throughout Southern Africa. He has been responsible for designing and implementing Cape Town’s first mixed-use, mixed-income housing developments, comprising more than 3500 homes. As an urban designer, Brent has worked closely with government agencies on addressing housing shortages and reducing apartheid urban planning throughout South Africa.
Brent completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Johannesburg and obtained his Master of Architecture at the University of the Free State in 2012. Driven by his passion for cities and city-making, Brent completed his Master of Urban Design at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2016. His dissertation explored the possibilities of regenerating derelict urban centers through mixed-income markets. By researching the economies of cities, Brent became fascinated with real estate development and tried to gain as much insight into the industry as possible by working closely with developers.
By pursuing a Master of Real Estate Development + Design, Brent aims to build upon his experience as an architect and urban designer gain in-depth knowledge of the property development industry to promote the upliftment of the socioeconomic status of the underprivileged through architecture and design.
