UC Berkeley alumna Rebecca Hui was awarded the Fulbright award by the United-States-India Educational Foundation. Rebecca Hui will spend nine months in Mumbai, India studying relationships between people and animals in a rapidly evolving urban environment.
As a double major in both Urban Studies and Business Administration, Rebecca Hui uses her educational background to examine the influence that urbanization and capitalism has on how animals and humans interact in a dense environment.
Her unconventional project, “The Secret lives of Urban Animals,” has her follow various animals, from stray dogs in Moscow to cows in India and shed light on an often overlooked part of living in an urban setting. Rebecca Hui sees her work potentially used for animal and environmental advocacy and their relevance in city planning, but her primary goal is to highlight the hidden world of city.
