Japanese students affected by tsunami come to Bay Area
02 August 2013
Students from areas in Japan that were hard hit by the earthquake and tsunami 2 and a half years ago come to the Bay Area to participate in Y-PLAN's TOMODACHI SoftBank Leadership Initiative program at the College of Environmental Design. Jointly sponsored by the U.S.-Japan Council and SoftBank Inc., the TOMODACHI SoftBank Leadership program aimed to lay the foundation towards rebuilding the Tohoku region of Japan. The program design incorporates community service projects, cultural enrichment activities, global skills training, and other types of experiential individual and group learning focused on developing civic responsibility and commitment to communities as well as inspiring future leaders to be agents of positive change. At the end of the program, students will use their newfound skills to present a proposal to the City of Berkeley for the redevelopment of Telegraph Avenue.
