registration, fees & lodging


Updated course fees for 2016 will be available by early February.  Costs for the 2015 shortcourse were $2,250 with onsite lodging available for $30/night.


All meals are included from Sunday dinner to Friday lunch, served on site at Sagehen Creek Field Station.  Please specify food preferences on the registration form.

Payment Options

Credit cards or checks accepted.  Government purchase orders accepted, but not preferred.

If paying by check, you will receive a $50 discount if you use the discount code CH3CK on the registration form (on the first page).


Registration for 2016 will be available by early February.

Once registration is complete and your payment is authorized, we will send you a confirmation.  A cancellation by June 15, 2015 will receive a full refund minus $150.  A cancellation after June 15 will receive a full refund minus $350 if a replacement student can be found, no refund if no replacement is found.  Most years, we have a waiting list, so replacements may be found given sufficient notice.  Substitutions are acceptable and encouraged.

Lodging Options

The California course, now in its 20th successful year, is held at Sagehen Creek Field Station, 15 mi north of Lake Tahoe, and 45 minutes from the Reno airport. The station combines a beautiful natural setting with excellent research and teaching facilities, free wireless internet, and excellent meals.  For those flying to Reno we will offer a pickup from the airport at 6pm on Sun, August 14.  We can drop you off at the airport at 5:15pm on Fri, August 19.

Sagehen Creek is steps away from the teaching facilities, and provides an excellent on-site laboratory to illustrate many of the concepts taught in the course. Participants can stay on-site or commute from hotels in Truckee (15 minute drive).
